Fashioned: One Becomes Another on Twin Cities Live

Two of the dress sculptures in the gallery's new exhibit, "Fashioned: One Becomes Another," were featured on live models on KSTP TV's Twin Cities Live yesterday, Wednesday, September 14. The dresses were created by Project Runway Designer, Christopher Straub and the gallery's very own, Patrick Kemal Pryor. All of the dress sculptures will come alive this Saturday evening, September 17 beginning at 7:30 p.m. during the opening reception for "Fashioned: One Becomes Another."

Minnesota's Quiet Art Patrons

I just read and commented on Minnesota Public Radio's Mary Ann Combs' arts blog about this Saturday evening's FEAST. FEAST is an opportunity for local arts patrons to support artists' projects with a modest donation of $10-$20. You can learn more about FEAST by going to its website: www.feastmpls.org. Here is my comment about how FEAST is an example of Minnesotans' generous support of local artists.

Thank you for blogging about FEAST. As someone who works with local artists and is an art collector, I am very pleased to see Minneapolis as the second site for this type of patronage to artists. I certainly plan to attend the FEAST on Saturday.

Minnesotans may be surprised to know that despite the tough economy, some local art patrons are quietly providing private financial support to outstanding local artists. Their generosity and enthusiasm for art is amazing. Patrick Kemal Pryor is one talented and very productive Minnesota artist with whom I work. He has received support from patrons for several of his projects, including a three-month sabbatical in New Zealand to reassess where his art has been and where it is going. I would be interested in hearing about other such examples.

Art for Choice

This year, I am serving as an advisory committee member for the Art for Choice art and charity event on October 2, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at the W Hotel in the Foshey Tower in Minneapolis. Art for Choice benefits Pro-Choice Resources, a non-profit organization that has been working for over 42 years to deliver sex education and health services to people throughout Minnesota.

Two of my clients, Joan Malkerson and Patrick Kemal Pryor have donated paintings for this fundraiser. Other artists participating in this event include Alec Soth, Michael Birawer, Jennifer Davis, Chris Mars and many more.

Bidding on the artwork starts at 1/3 of the art’s value and 100% of the profits go to fund Pro-Choice Resources needed services. I hope that you are able to join me for an evening of fabulous art, live music, food and cash bar.

Dan Mather, the creator of the Walker Art Center's Glass Chunk Chandeliers, is experimenting with new lighting designs. The following video shows prototypes of his newest design which Dan calls, "Rock Stars." Rock Stars can be made into chandeliers or sconces. They will be made of metal with light provided by LEDs, You will have a choice of finishes, light colors (white included) and a choice of shapes for the metal plates and a choice of patterns that will be cut into the plates.
